Midland Terrace Playground, OPDC, 2025
Midland Terrace Playground, North Acton
Completed · 2025
Midland Terrace Playground in North Acton has been reshaped by the people who use it. The renewal began with a vision drawn up by local residents working with Ealing Council and the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC). After a public consultation in 2024, a first phase of works brought new and repaired play equipment for children up to eleven, new paths, seating and planting. JG Contemporary produced and delivered the playground’s mural, painted by artist Tasia Graham.
The design came directly from the families who use the playground. At a mural workshop in May 2025, parents and children drew and chalked their own ideas, then chose an abstract design together. “For the mural I’ve used geometric shapes and colours, taken from drawings and chalk designs, whilst incorporating the colour palette of the playground,” says Tasia. “Themes of nature and play are incorporated.” The finished mural runs along the playground fence, turning a plain boundary into a bright welcome made from the community’s own marks.
JG Contemporary managed the project for OPDC: running the community workshop, and delivering the mural on site. The result is a vibrant, durable artwork that local people helped to create, and that gives the playground a strong sense of ownership and pride. The refurbished playground and mural are now open to the public.
